Workplace Safety

Safety

Safety is priority number one, even above how well you clean!

Danger can come from an animal, other people at a clean, a fire, or the property itself. That’s why the initial walk-through is so important. If you encounter any of these things and feel you are in danger, exit the property and call your team leader.

Things to watch for:

  • A dog who seems unfriendly
  • An unfamiliar person when no one else is there
  • A door or garage door left open when it’s normally not
  • Unsafe flooring
  • Mold
  • Smoke
  • Natural gas smell

If you encounter any of those things, call your team leader and exit the building until you get further instructions.

If you ever see a fire, exit the building immediately and then call 911.

Businesses – check to make sure all doors are locked after you enter the building. If you find an unlocked door when you arrive at a business, call the owner before entering.

Never do anything you are not comfortable with, even if the homeowner asks you to. For instance, if they ask you to climb a ladder to reach something that is well over your head, let them know you are not allowed to get higher than a two-step ladder. Just use common sense, but don’t be afraid to say no.

Stay hydrated and eat snacks during the day to keep your energy up. This is a very physically demanding job, so do things to build muscles outside of work as well as take care of yourself while you are working.

How to clock in and out

Clocking In and Getting Paid

You will clock in when you leave from home and clock out when you get home. If you are going directly to another cleaning job, clock out of the one you just finished and clock into the next one. Do that for all jobs no matter how many you have in a day.

If you are ride sharing and not driving, you clock in when you get to a job and when you finish. You do not clock in when you leave home and get home. Clocking in from home is to help with those driving with mileage.

Open your Jobber app and click on the job you are going to and start the timer. When you get home or are finished with that job, stop the timer. It’s that simple.

If you stop for gas or to get something to eat or do some errands in-between cleans, stop the timer when you leave the last job and start it when you get to the next job.

You are responsible to make sure your timesheet is correct each week. Click on Timesheets at the bottom of your Jobber app and correct any jobs that don’t look accurate. Sometimes the internet is not good enough to clock in, so record your time when you get home or have WIFI.

Payday is every Friday. Your timesheet must be up to date by Tuesday every week because we do payroll on Wednesday.

If you are cleaning your vacuum or going to the storage unit, you can clock in and get paid for doing those things. You will go to Jobber and click on Timesheets and you will see a “clock in” button. You can clock in and clock out here to clean your vacuum or go to the storage unit. You can also use this for team meetings or quarterly reviews or anything not related to cleaning that you have been asked to do.

If you are given a tip by a client, you get 100% of those tips. They will be listed as a line item on your check stub. If you didn’t get a tip you thought you were entitled to, please say something.

Arrival to Departure

Arrival to Departure

Arrive 5 minutes early. Make sure you are in the right location, get your supplies and equipment. If you haven’t started your timer, do that now.

Do your initial walk through (see video on doing a walk through)

Start cleaning and make sure everything is perfect. No need to rush. There is always enough time to do a great job!

Check off everything on the Jobber checklist. When you are finished, do another quick walk through looking for equipment, cleaning supplies that may have gotten left in an out of the way place.

Once you’ve finished that final walk through, save and send the checklist to the home or business owner. Add a quick personal note and type your name so they know who is cleaning for them and then send it.

Be sure to get all your equipment and supplies before leaving. If the homeowner is at home, ask them to do that final walk through with you so you can make sure they are happy with your work before you leave.

If no one is at home, make sure you are locking the doors and/or setting alarms as you leave or whatever protocol you were asked to do. For businesses, it is very important that doors get locked and alarms get set according to their instructions. All of that information is in Jobber.

Cleaning Supplies

The Magenta Cleaning Products

The bulk of our cleaning products from a company called Melaleuca. They are eco-friendly products that are safe for pets, children and the environment. They are what set us apart from all other cleaning companies.

Tough n Tender
Flagship product good for almost anything. Look for the 12X mark on the side of the bottle and fill with product, then add water to the top of the neck. It cleans almost anything.

Melamagic
It’s a super degreaser and spot remover. Does not have it’s own spray bottle. Can be added to almost all other products to boost the cleaning power. VERY concentrated, so a little goes a long way.

Tub n Tile
For sinks, tubs, showers, anything with a soap scum. Dilute just like Tough n Tender. Be sure to use the white spray nozzle so that it comes out foamy. Spray it on and let it sit for a minute so it can work on the soap scum. If it dries before you can clean, spray again and clean right away.

Clear Power
Window cleaner. Only use a capful of cleaner to a full bottle of water. Can also add vinegar for just a bit more streak free clean.

Safe & Mighty
Toilet bowl cleaner. Always use this around the rim of the toilet as soon as you start cleaning the bathroom. Does not need to be diluted but don’t use half the bottle for each toilet. One quick trip around the rim is enough. Let it sit and then come back and scrub after it’s had time to do it’s job.

Rustic Touch
Dusting cleaner for when you are doing more than light dusting. Also great on stainless steel appliances to make them look new after they have been wiped down. Spray the Rustic Touch on a cloth, not directly on the appliances. Then wipe in the direction of the grain of the stainless steel for that brand new look!

SoluGuard
Cleaning somewhere that needs heavy duty sanitizing? Use SoluGuard. It doesn’t clean, it disinfects and sanitizes. Always use Tough n Tender or Melamagic to clean first, then spray SoluGuard and wipe it down for complete disinfecting and sanitizing. Dilute just like other cleaners.

Clean & Gleam
Floor cleaner. There are two types of bottles. There is a big one that you spray directly on the floor or the small bottle that can be diluted with water and used in any mop that has a refillable reservoir. Remember, with all Melaleuca products, a little goes a long way. If in doubt, use less!

Lemon Brite
Dishwashing soap. Even though we don’t do dishes very often, it works great with Melamagic or Tough n Tender to get grease off of cabinet faces or range hoods. Also, just a tiny drop with Clear Power helps get grime off windows. It’s very concentrated.

In addition to Melaleuca products, we use Bar Keepers and Easy Off and occasionally vinegar.

Client Satisfaction

Client Satisfaction Experience

Greet the homeowner with a smile if they are there. Show them you are happy to be there.

If it’s your first time there, make sure you introduce yourself and ask them to show you around.

Remember, everyone has cameras in their house and business nowadays, so even if you don’t see them, they see you!

Do at least one extra thing every time you clean such as a cleaning a soap dish or a smudge off the wall. Just a little something extra each time.

For first time cleans, leave some mints on the bed pillow or in the bathroom.

Leave a personal note on the Jobber checklist. Let them know you really like cleaning for them and then type your name so they know who cleaned for them.

All of these things lead to job security because it shows the client you really care about them.

Walkthrough

Walk Through Details

Do a complete walkthrough as you enter the home or business

Look for things that are broken or look out of place, messes from animals or unusually large messes or clutter

Take pictures and send to team leader or general manager and ask for advice. If need be, send picture to home or business owner and let them know what you found.

If you have a solution for the cleaning issue, let you team leader or homeowner know that when you contact them. Otherwise, ask for their advice about how to handle it.

Doing the walkthrough first and taking pictures keeps you from being blamed for issues later.

You can add pictures to the job in your Jobber app. Open the job and click on Notes to add pictures.

Always a good idea to take the after pictures as well.

Any notes about the situation should be put in the email that you send to the home or business owner with their checklist.

How to Clean an Oven

How to Clean an Oven

As soon as possible when you enter the house, spray the inside of the oven, the inside of the door and the racks with oven cleaner. DO NOT use oven cleaner on a blue oven. Only use Melamagic and hot water on a blue oven.

Close the oven door and let the oven cleaner sit for at least 30 minutes.

Wipe down the oven door glass and the rest of the inside of the door. Then use a razor blade and/or a 0000 steel wool pad to clean the glass or any of the surfaces of the door that don’t come clean with just the oven cleaner.

Take out oven racks and clean using magic eraser or 0000 steal wool pad.

Use steel wool pad or magic eraser to clean inside the oven. When finished, wipe the inside of the oven until it is free of any residue from the cleaner. This may take several times of wiping and rinsing.

Replace oven racks

If door glass looks cloudy, try using window cleaner and a clean cloth to get rid of any residue from the oven cleaner.

Be sure to wipe down the outside of the oven and finish polishing with Rustic Touch if the outside is stainless steel.

Carefully use a pumice stone in the toilet if there is a ring or hard water stains that don’t come out with the toilet bowl cleaner.

Try wiping off countertops or other surfaces with a clean, dry rag first then apply Tough n Tender or other cleaning product to do the actual cleaning.

When cleaning the toilet, be sure to clean the base of the toilet well, getting all hair and urine cleaned up. This is the most often missed area when cleaning a bathroom.

Magenta Storage Unit

Put the Storage Unit address and any codes in your contact list on your phone.

When entering the Magenta storage unit, look for the clipboard that has the inventory list on it. As you gather your supplies, put down the things you are taking from the inventory and sign your name and add the date you are there.

If you are taking a mop, broom, vacuum or any other equipment, sign that out on the Equipment Sign Out sheet. Note the date and your name.

If you are taking the last of something, no matter what it is, please let the general manager or team leader know so that we can reorder.

Do not under any circumstances, give your entry codes to anyone else. Even if you are with a close friend or family member, we do not want them to have access to that information. We would prefer you only access the storage unit with another Magenta employee or by yourself.

A team leader or general manager will get you your supplies the first time which includes a cleaning bag, rags, cleaning products, bottles, razor and many other items. Those are all listed on the Cleaning Supplies sheet in your training information.

All cleaning supplies and equipment must be returned to the storage unit if your employment is terminated either by you or by Magenta. Your last paycheck will be held until all supplies are returned. Any items not returned will be deducted from your last paycheck.
